FAQ

How are Chinese characters counted?

Each CJK character counts as one. The tool distinguishes CJK char count and Latin word count separately.

What's the 'no whitespace' count?

Total characters after removing every whitespace (space, tab, newline). Some quota systems use this number.

Why does it show UTF-8 byte size?

To estimate storage / network size. CJK is 3 bytes/char in UTF-8; ASCII is 1 byte.

How accurate is the reading-time estimate?

It's an estimate at 300 chars/min silent, 180 spoken (CN) or 250 / 150 wpm (EN). Real speed depends on the speaker and content.
